A Cross Fitting (also called a pipe cross or 4-way fitting) is a pipe fitting with four openings — one inlet and three outlets, or two inlets and two outlets — all in the same plane, typically at 90° angles to each other. It creates a four-way junction in a piping system, allowing fluid to be distributed or collected from four directions simultaneously.

Key characteristics of a cross fitting:

• Four outlets at 90° to each other in a single plane — forming a plus (+) shape
• Equal cross: all four legs are the same bore size
• Reducing cross: one or more legs have a smaller bore for branch connections
• Available in butt weld, socket weld, threaded, and hygienic Tri-Clamp end connections

Cross fitting vs. Tee fitting — when to choose a cross:

• Use a Cross when you need to split or collect flow in four directions from a single point — common in manifold headers, distribution systems, and fire suppression networks
• Use a Tee when you need a three-way junction — simpler, lower pressure drop, more common in general process piping
• Cross fittings can replace two tees in series where space is limited, reducing overall pipe length and welding requirements
