What Is an Eccentric Reducer? ? — And How Is It Different from a Concentric Reducer?

An Eccentric Reducer is a pipe fitting used to connect two pipes of different diameters, where one side of the fitting is flat (the flat side) and the other side is tapered. This design keeps one side of the pipe centreline aligned while the other shifts — creating an offset centreline between the larger and smaller ends.

A Concentric Reducer (CR), by contrast, is symmetrical — both pipe ends share the same centreline. The taper is uniform all around, which looks like a cone.

When to use Eccentric Reducers:

  • Horizontal piping carrying liquids — the flat-side-up orientation prevents air pockets and vapour lock in the pipeline
